Leaving Their Mark: Chalkfest '06

Using colored chalk, kids and adults decorated the city square. It's all part of the annual Chalkfest.

For less than $20 anyone could grab a bucket of chalk and a square of sidewalk. This is the third year of the fest and organizers say the number of people participating has more than doubled since the event began.

"I think everyone within them has the ability to create things on pavement. It does take that little extra gumption or risk, in a way, to buy a $10 box of chalk and just see what happens," says Kevin Korpela, a Chalkfest committee member.

The two day event comes to a close Sunday (7/9) as the artists put the finishing touches on their drawings. The artists judge each other's work to decide the best of the best. You can also find your favorites, the drawings will be on display until Mother Nature washes them away.
