Downtown Grocery.com hosts open house

Downtown Grocery.com, 607 Third St., isn't quite ready for business, but it is ready for guests.

The store will have an open house tonight during Exhibitour, an arts display and sale at businesses throughout the downtown. From 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the store will welcome visitors and have some refreshments for those that want to look at the space that formerly housed Vullings Floral and Gifts.

Co-manager Valerie Berkely said the store should open by the end of this month.

Downtown resident Kevin Korpela and local organic farmer Blaine Tornow are partners in the grocery, one of the glaring needs of Wausau's revitalized central city.

The store will feature locally grown, organic produce, along with traditional grocery offerings, such as frozen, canned and boxed goods and sundry items.

The store will also feature Deliberations, an urban deli, which will offer ready-made sandwiches, salads and dinners using the store's organic produce.
